ahh the academy awards..no sooner do they come when they're gone in a flash of tulle and taffeta - some good and some not so...let's start with the good!
scarlet johansson in dolce & gobbanna: i love the colour, the lace and the shape. in a sea of princess gowns , this stood out ..very rock and roll and i love her pared down make up..
hayley steinfeld and michelle williams and mandy moore all opted for nude gowns...hailee helped design her marchesa number and , altough it seems to be on a lot of worst dressed lists, i think it's perfect for her...she's 14! it's demure, fun and very pretty...michelle williams stayed safe, as is expected from her, with a high neck line and simple shape ..a beautiful beaded gown, she knows what she likes and it is chanel so it gets my seal of approval...mandy is in monique luhullier and i love the colour against her porcelain skin and the pared down hair and make-up; the dress is the focal point..
mila kunis in this purple elie saab couture number..love the colour, draping and peek of skin under the slashed lace...
kate blanchett: is there anything you can't do ?! this couture givenchy dress is so different and was a real breath of fresh air on the red carpet last night...the structures shoulders and yellow detail on the neckline are the perfect balance to a feminine dress and stop it from becoming girly and twee...
and the not so good? hmm...here's a few i thought disapointed...
gweneth paltow in calvin klein..the shiny dress and blond hair scream mtv video music awards mid - 90's , not acadamy award performer and nominee...her michael kors performance outfit was better but nothing to write home about...it's the oscars.. you can wear anything.. i want wow!!
hillary swank and halle berry look a little too doppleganger for my liking in these dresses:gucci and marchesa...
poor christian dior had two misses on the carpet in the form of nicole kidman and sharon stone..nicole's hair let her down big time...goes to show how important the details of a red carpet outfit are as much as a great dress..helen mirren's vivienne westwood dress was unflattering in colour and material and on an incredible body like hers that's hard to do..penelope cruz in l'wren scott was a little too 'jazz' for me but the woman has just had a baby and looks amazing so no wonder she's smiling...
ms. hathaway was the woman to watch last night! does anyone know if it was rachel zoe's styling challenge ? i think it was... any who,
i was very disapointed with the host's red carpet choice of a red valentino...the fit was all wrong and the hair and make-up let it down - perhaps big bouncing side swept curls would have saved it ? but she more than made up for it on stage with 7 outfits including a tom ford number to close the show and a very rock and roll atelier versace wine gown..
