my fashion aha! moment....

at this time of year , sentiment seems to raise it's conspicuous head. add to this the christmas gamut of james bond films which have filled my days since i can remember and the result is the memory of my first fashion aha! moment...

the bond girl has been a fashion staple for as long as the movies have been a macho punch line powerhouse. sure these females are often ditzy, helpless and somewhat oblivious to the seduction of one mr. bond - but they are undeniably sexy, strong and always hold their own on screen. in the 60's they pushed the boundaries of the female role, and fashion wise they're always on top...

my fashion aha! moment came when i was young - probably 7 or 8 - while watching  dr. no...the moment ursula andress waded out of the sea , singing 'underneath the mango tree' , in that bikini , i gasped and thought  'that's it; that's what beauty, style, glamour, fashion is - and i want in...'

in the 60's , that kind of blatant sexual exuberance was still a strange occurrence , certainly for a large audience and it struck a chord with men and women alike...

on the topic of bond girls, i have to say i think the bond ladies of years gone by are making a quiet second coming in the form of our current style icons...rihanna has been channelling grace jones circa a view to kill and britt eckland is resonated in laura stone...

grace jones

britt eckland

lara stone

whenever people give me the feminist take on the bond girl - dimwit, only on screen for the bosoms- i hit back;more than the aesthetic beauty these women channel ,there's a power and status that will always hold my attention more than the allure of the spy with the golden gun...and besides, it is just a movie !

here's to the new decade of bond girls and with it a fresh set of on screen women to enjoy...
